On June 16, 2016 a group of Realtor’s set out to help a neighbor in need.
Joan Mitchell is married to Henry and they live in Bono, AR. Joan has been an elementary school teacher for 24 years. In February 2016, while driving to school in Imboden, she had a life altering one-vehicle car accident. She suffered fractures to her back, neck, shoulder, arm and ribs. After several weeks on a ventilator and several more weeks in rehabilitation, Joan has been discharged home to continue her recovery. It is uncertain if Joan will ever be able to walk again, but she is determined to prove them wrong.
In their small home, the bedroom had no room for the needed hospital bed, therefore she now lives in the living room. Besides their lost income, Joan’s expenses of medical bills are still mounting. One pending expense was the badly needed installation of a wheelchair ramp to their front door.
Thanks to a group of Northeast Arkansas Board of Realtors members, we were able to install Joan a wheelchair ramp, plus make some updates to the front of their home. In the end, we were able to update their fascia boards, install a new front door, flowerbeds, and build/install new shutters.
Due to the 100 degree heat, the project took three days to complete. I want to say a special thank you to the Realtors who were able to come out and give their time and energy on this project! We couldn’t have done it without you!! Also, thank you to Ridout Lumber, Bennett’s Nursery and all of the Realtors who donated money towards this project!!!
